Owls Nest Botanical Garden

For a large property containing formal gardens, naturalistic gardens, and native woodland, GuideOne produced an iPhone app that functions as a self-guided tour of the landscape.

Users on a trail can open the app, find their location within the garden, and click on plant icons to bring up pictures, plant descriptions, ethnobotanical information, or even time-lapse videos. Panoramas explain the plants seen from select vantage point. Audio tours are built into the map, which is linked to automatically highlight special plants as they are mentioned.

The project is essentially a dynamic map containing every plant and feature on the property, which has two forms: A website version of the map to explore on a large screen, and the iPhone map optimized for navigation and use outdoors. Behind the scenes, plant location changes, plant additions, images, or new tours are easily made with our GuideOne Curator CMS. Changes instantly take place in both the iPhone app and website. For this collaboration Guideone transformed a traditional plant records database and survey into an elegant educational tool.
